This beautifully rugged trail race begins at Laguna Lake Park and circumnavigates Cerro San Luis. The 6.2-mile course is laced with fun single track and fire road. With an elevation gain of over 1000 feet, this is no ordinary 10k.

Set against Laguna Lake with dramatic views of the coastal range and an overlook of historic downtown San Luis Obispo, the San Luis Mountain Run is becoming one of the most anticipated annual sporting events on the Central Coast.

Tips from the professionals on Saturday March 8

Training plans, nutrition, and injury prevention- areas in which there is constant room for improvement! Take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about all three of these topics the day before the run. We encourage you to join us for this free clinic on March 8 from 3 to 4:30pm at Laguna Lake Park that aims to help you become a more well-rounded and holistic athlete! Each talk will end with a chance to ask your specific questions. Here are our special guest speakers:

Shantel Beckers of Body Centered Therapy, Inc.
will be discussing common running-related injuries including how best to prevent them, as well as the steps to rehabilitation to get you back out there running! Ms. Beckers is a Nationally Certified Massage therapist who specializes in Sports Therapy and Injury Rehabilitation. In addition to being an avid runner, she worked with USA Track & Field at the 2004 Olympic Games and is on medical staff with the Association of Surfing Professionals.

Stephanie Nunes is a Registered Dietitian, graduate from Cal Poly, and has been involved in the nutrition field for 15 years. She is a competitive runner, mother of two, published writer, and a nutrition consultant for local athletic programs. At the clinic she focuses in on optimizing your athletic performance with proper hydration, bringing her extensive knowledge of nutrition, optimal recovery, and medical nutrition therapy as background.

Dave Sullivan has been a competitive runner for over 20 years, as well as a collegiate and age-group All-American in triathlon. Dave is a certified USA Triathlon coach and a certified personal trainer and has been coaching athletes for 11 years. In his talk, he will be covering the value of designing a training plan and the importance of periodization and recovery.

Take advantage of the knowledge that these speakers have to offer on March 8th from 3-4:30pm at Laguna Lake Park during race bag pickup, which is from 2 to 5 pm.

This year's race is part of the Trail Runner Magazine's Trophy Series. As the world's largest off-road race schedule, this North American points series features over 100 specially selected trail races held between March 1 and September 30, 2008. Age-Group participants grab series points at the San Luis Mountain Run, just by finishing the event, and additional points for top-three placing.

In October of this year, those with the most points in their respective age group will win prize packages courtesy of the Trophy Series sponsors. Series participants are also entered into a free raffle, in which winners will be chosen randomly to win a prize package.

Plus, all SLO Mountain Run participants receive a free copy of Trail Runner Mag's Trophy Series Edition and an event t-shirt in race bags.
