Adding the New 'Terra Trial' - Nothing Like it on the Central Coast…
You're a runner, or a maybe a hiker, or you like water sports… or maybe triathlons and adventure races intrigue you for the multisport effort it takes. Perhaps you're the kind of Renaissance woman or man that likes to try it all. Whatever your background, if you like excitement, the Terra Trial is for you. It's a new way to test your skills and it's being held exclusively at Laguna Lake on November 11 from 11 to 4pm. Experience Laguna Lake transformed into a unique obstacle playground that pits you against the time clock!
An Inside Look at this New Event
Imagine yourself at the beginning of a ¾ -mile run course, filled with various physical challenges along the way. The start marshal has just helped you into a kayak and yells "3-2-1- GO!" You're off and experiencing the Outrigger Traverse, which requires you to negotiate a pulley system of ropes just above your head, with the goal of pulling your kayak from A to B as soon as possible. Out of the kayak, and back on land, you're on foot heading to The Aqua Beam, a balance beam supported over water. Your test is to be quick as you walk across the 90-foot beam, staying as nimble as possible so as not to fall directly in the 3 feet of water below. It's a close one, but you make it high and dry to what's known as the San Luis Stockade. You find the fastest way to climb over this slick 8-foot wall and drop onto the crash pads on the other side.
Your adrenaline is running for sure by now, and it's just about to get really fun as you approach The Grit Pit. This messy mud pit awaits you, adorned with a flag line, under which you must crawl in an army-style fashion. Right about now, you're covered in mud and, well, you like it because this is all about testing your dirtiest ambitions and having a blast all at the same time. Spectators are cheering you on as you emerge from the pit looking like a swamp monster, and you head into your final integrative challenge: The Juggernaut – a ropes and cargo net structure that tests the upper-body and core strength as you swing from one rope to another and crawl up a cargo net. Knowing you're seconds away from the finish, you give it your best heart-pounding sprint to the finish, where another marshal awaits you at the line.
Logging in at the finish, you check your time on the screen, covered in dirt and mud. The Marshal looks up at you and says, "Congratulations, you've just finished the Terra Trial." You smile and laugh. Your whole body has been tested, but that's not all. This was a true mental challenge as well – not like anything else around here….
